William Edwards Allergy Book Series
Stacie Berg is an award-winning journalist and allergy mom. With her son Jonathan, an engaging book series was created to empower kids with food allergies. It’s through mediums like books and films that allergies will become no big thing and we will change the self-esteem of this generation of kids… and as a result stop future bullying. William Edwards targets kids 8 – 12 years old. By this age, kids usually have already been diagnosed and have a pretty good understanding of what the diagnosis means in terms of food restrictions. However, it is at about this age that exclusion as a result of dietary restrictions becomes more pronounced and when kids begin to feel the impact of being different from their peers. Stacie gets a PP Positivity Star!!!  Keep Reading »
Helen Gurley Brown
HGB, the woman who needed no more than an acronym, died today. She was an icon, a force in magazine publishing, women’s liberties and a restorer of self confidence. It’s because of Helen Gurley Brown that books like 50 Shades of Grey can go mainstream in our market and Carrie Bradshaw is a single, successful, sexy city gal. Prior to the voice HGB gave women in the media, we were all emptionally-suppressed housewives living in Post-WWII conservatism chiefly concerned with ironing our husband’s underpants and minding our dinner party etiquette.

Read Sex & The Single Girlby Helen Gurley Brown

The longtime editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine who invited millions of women to join the sexual revolution died at age 90.  She was a trailblazer, one of the most influential 20th century feminists. Her book is a compelling look into how far we’ve come in our feminine liberties, and as Brown went on to become editor-in-chief at Cosmopolitan Magazine she put women in touch with themselves thanks to articles like “10 Ways To Turn Down The Boss”. If the book is too much of a time investment, at least click through to order the movie. At the beginning of her media career, which began with the 1962 book “Sex and the Single Girl”, HGB said that her aim was to tell a reader “how to get everything out of life — the money, recognition, success, men, prestige, authority, dignity — whatever she is looking at through the glass her nose is pressed against.” RIP HGB, you left an indelible mark on the world… and a big smudge on the glass.
master cleanser
Celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz who believe in alternative therapies have been bashed as starving themselves on kooky diets. However, the true source of the “lemonade diet” as it’s been called is The Master Cleanser. This isn’t concocted by some crazy chick trying to lose weight, it’s a book written by nutrition guru Stanley Burroughs in the 1940s as one of his alternative therapies to cure ailments like stomach ulcers. Should you wish to enlighten yourself to the benefits of Grade B maple syrup, which has as much calcium cup-for-cup as milk, and of electrolytes supplied by fresh lemon, a more natural source than Gatorade, the book was added to Amazon in 1999 at my request and with Mr. Burrough’s daughter’s assistance. While you’re there, take a moment to read the reviews by men and women whose lives changed because of this “crazy 72 year old fad”.   The NY Times did a great article with people’s opinions of the master cleanse. Give it a read and keep an open mind. Judge for yourself and first and foremost, listen to what your body tells you. It won’t steer you wrong. Here’s a link to help you: http://ppweb.co/KYQgOx
