dropbox-vs-icloud

Take THAT overpriced iCloud. After spending $500 for an iPhone customers should be provided free backup storage sufficient for the device’s memory. After all, isn’t device failure the reason I backup in the first place?

Today, again I am within 300MB of my iCloud 20GB limit for my new iPhone 5S 64GB. Apple is hoping my desperation leads me to push the “upgrade iCloud” button and spend an additional $100 to keep my data safe.

We buy an overpriced iPhone and pay exorbitant fees to backup our data for when Apple’s hardware fails. We’re suckers!

Not this time! Here’s what you do…

Sign up for a free Dropbox cloud account online. Then, get this free Dropbox App, install it on your iPhone and voíla – automatic backups of your media to Dropbox, accessible from anywhere, 100% secure. Refer a few friends and you get extra Dropbox space for free.

Why choose Dropbox? It’s free and the company still has integrity. They aren’t greedy like Apple and they aren’t spying like Google (you did know they read your gmail, right?).

Movie Don Jon

PLOT SUMMARY: A New Jersey guy dedicated to his family, friends, and church, develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.

PP REVIEW:  We peek into the world of Jersey middle class 20-somethings, the suburban club scene and the pressure to keep up a “cool guy” image with hard biceps and a “perfect dime” girlfriend. I loved the human side of this story, the secret porn addiction that was handled hilariously, keeping this movie classy instead of creepy.

Scarlett Johansson plays a perfect Jersey girl. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is hot and disarmingly sweet (esp for a porn addict). Julianne Moore and Tony Danza play interesting characters.

4 stars for brilliant performances, hilarious moments and an engaging dramedy. Minus one star for the abrupt ending. What’s up with that?

RATING: 3.8 Stars (3.8 / 5)

Milo & I were playing ball on this beautiful Fall Sunday when we heard the terrible sound of a car crash as it drove up the street that splits the school park from the playground. A dog owner began frantically running towards the street yelling for her dog. On instinct, her golden labrador struggled to roll to its feet and get out of the road, getting one good limp in before collapsing on the grassy curb. He’d been hit.

As I write this I cry. That poor, beautiful animal. Humans were to blame.

He hadn’t done anything wrong. He was excited to be out on a sunny day with his sibling; they were two golden labs, maybe three or four years old. They didn’t know the park bordered a street that was preceded by a blind curve. They couldn’t leash themselves. A dog’s instinct is to Keep Reading »

The Eye | The Lips | The Nails

It’s the look of the season.
Not too smoky, not too bare… Kinda like you just don’t care.

But ohhh we do care!

 Warby Parker Glasses

In the past it’s been easier to get a mail order bride than mail order glasses. That’s changed with eyeglass designer Warby Parker’s Home Try-On program.

My friend Jeff messaged me today asking for advice on what glasses shape would be best for his face, and I told him “ask the people who are only too happy to insult you – your friends.” Friends give the best input on what looks good, but that means you need the glasses in-hand.

Warby Parker crafts modern-but-not-too-trendy eyewear (just saying you have Warby Parkers will make you appear hip) priced around $100 per prescription pair. They also have non-prescript and sunglasses.

And for every pair sold they give a pair to someone in need. It’s a charity 2-fer and that’s the best part of all!

HOME TRY-ONS:  5 Pairs, 5 Days, 100% Free  >>
They’ll send you up to 5 pairs of glasses to try on at home for 5 days free, and include a pre-paid return shipping label to send them back with no obligation to buy. Easy peasy!

Paula Patrice's silver jewelry

I try to be aware of my environmental impact, but none of the sonic machines or non-hazardous-chemical silver cleaners get the tarnish off my jewelry grrr! My mom looked everywhere for the Connoisseurs brand we used when I was a kid, but it was nowhere to be found.

Not so fast – turns out the company just changed its packaging! So here is the still-hard-to-find, illegal-in-California, cancer-causing, super-smelly-but-works-amazing Connoisseurs Silver Cleaner.  It’s magic!

Wear gloves, don’t breathe, and only dip for 10 seconds max!

PS: if anyone has found an effective alternative, tell me!

GEMS hair accessories by Erickson Beamon to fight sex slavery

While we’re counting our blessings this holiday season others just like us are living as sex slaves. Help them >>

Human trafficking is considered the world’s second largest, fastest growing organized crime; it is a multi-billion dollar industry. The International Labor Organization estimates up to 20.9 million people globally are modern-day slaves, and UNICEF estimates that 1.2 million children are sold every year. It’s disgusting and it’s happening in your own backyard.

Organizations such as GEMS and Somaly Mam Foundation dedicate themselves to helping victims escape and recover. Somaly Mam is a former Cambodian sex slave who never knew her own name. GEMS is founded by Rachel Lloyd, who in 1998 with a computer and $30 started her non-profit at her kitchen table, in a house where she was providing women safe harbor.  GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services) assists victims, girls and young women ages 12–24, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking.

Through your purchase of these fabulous limited-edition hair accessories by famed jewelry designer Erickson Beamon you can make a difference; all proceeds support GEMS.

Combine a few for a Gatsby-inspired, art-deco holiday ‘do… and feel good that your purchase made a difference in someone’s life. SHOP & SAVE A LIFE >>

William Edwards Allergy Book Series
Stacie Berg is an award-winning journalist and allergy mom. With her son Jonathan, an engaging book series was created to empower kids with food allergies. It’s through mediums like books and films that allergies will become no big thing and we will change the self-esteem of this generation of kids… and as a result stop future bullying. William Edwards targets kids 8 – 12 years old. By this age, kids usually have already been diagnosed and have a pretty good understanding of what the diagnosis means in terms of food restrictions.
