I normally share these fun videos on my Facebook, but this is too cute not to post here.

This dog is not allowed on the bed. Watch what happens when his owners leave (but set up a hidden camera!)

You learned how to Smize in a previous post, smiling with your eyes. It’s an emotional connection that a model makes with the camera lens.

Here, NYC fashion photographer Peter Hurley teaches the art of the “Squinch”, a physical trick that gives the perception that a connection is made. That a model isn’t blankly gazing but is engaging.

Watch, learn and practice. You’ll look cooler in your Instagram photos.

Let’s be Facebook friends and make the world a smaller place

Tyra Banks Smizing

Models work hard to perfect their camera gaze. Photographers often instruct “Give me more.” But what’s more to give?

Tyra Banks coined the phrase “smizing”, when a model smiles with their eyes. Here’s a quick tutorial; now grab a mirror and start practicing.

eye bling piercing heart

On today’s “what is this world coming to” list is the new cosmetic procedure implanting shiny jewelry into the eyeball. C’monnn, really??

This only goes to prove that if you’re willing to pay, there’s a doctor on Park Avenue willing to oblige. Until someone loses and eyeball and sues. And we wonder why medical malpractice insurance is so high?

Want something permanent that’s painful to remove? Get a tattoo. Leave your eyeballs au naturale. Your mother will thank you.

GEMS hair accessories by Erickson Beamon to fight sex slavery

While we’re counting our blessings this holiday season others just like us are living as sex slaves. Help them >>

Human trafficking is considered the world’s second largest, fastest growing organized crime; it is a multi-billion dollar industry. The International Labor Organization estimates up to 20.9 million people globally are modern-day slaves, and UNICEF estimates that 1.2 million children are sold every year. It’s disgusting and it’s happening in your own backyard.

Organizations such as GEMS and Somaly Mam Foundation dedicate themselves to helping victims escape and recover. Somaly Mam is a former Cambodian sex slave who never knew her own name. GEMS is founded by Rachel Lloyd, who in 1998 with a computer and $30 started her non-profit at her kitchen table, in a house where she was providing women safe harbor.  GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services) assists victims, girls and young women ages 12–24, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking.

Through your purchase of these fabulous limited-edition hair accessories by famed jewelry designer Erickson Beamon you can make a difference; all proceeds support GEMS.

Combine a few for a Gatsby-inspired, art-deco holiday ‘do… and feel good that your purchase made a difference in someone’s life. SHOP & SAVE A LIFE >>

What happens in New York City over the course of a day? People come, people go. People eat, people shop. Meh, not so interesting… until it’s mapped out in a time-lapse video of Foursquare check-ins. Mesmerizing!

A hilarious parody!!!  Working with rent-a-babies is no laughing matter though, it’s tough!

In “The Devil Wears Prada“, one of my favorite movie scenes ever gives truthful insight into the “creative flow” of trends. It’s harsh, but true.

Meryl Streep (loosely based on Anna Wintour) ends her rant with “…then trickled on down to some Casual Corner where you no doubt fished it out of a clearance bin…”

Ummm what’s wrong with Casual Corner? HA

There’s an unspoken-about gap between high fashion and consumer fashion, as if high fashion wants to pretend that it could exist without consumerism, but it couldn’t, at least not in the economic materialism sense. There is no superior value to a $4000 limited-edition designer coat than a $300 private-label department store coat, provided both are made of quality materials that will keep the wearer warm.

The material value is set by our individual values: softness, uniqueness in the market, innovation of design. The more unique an item is, the less it will sell to the masses, which means a designer needs to mark up the price to maintain a high profit margin and stay in business, since they won’t be selling high volume. The craftsmanship of these garments meets the standards of certain consumers’ values, thereby validating the price, at least in their minds. They want to acquire something people don’t have yet and they’re willing to pay for that item that “controls” the market.

The trickle down effect is that the unique item, now quantified by sales in the marketplace, will be copied, though in a generic style, to be sold to the masses. And therein lies the symbiosis.

Poor Carly Rae Jepson, all psyched up to throw out the first pitch of the ball game… and then this. A 7 foot toss… how mortifying! Teehee
Karl Lagerfeld

Special appearance by Karl @ the 1:01 mark.

And that’s model Ashleigh Good in there too.

So artsy. I totally need those Chanel bowtie wrist cuffs!

The communities of Bolivia rely on quinoa (keen-wah) production for their  livelihoods. What’s fascinating is how the life of the farmer revolves around the production of the crop, and the care with which they plant and tend to it. I’m so accustomed to seeing foods planted & processed through machinery. Something about this human contact with the Earth just feels right, and from this city-person’s perspective it feels like something we’ve disconnected from that we need to return to. Who knew that eating healthy helps more than yourself, it helps the world! There are real video clips inserted into the powerpoint presentation starting at the 1:37 mark, once they begin to harvest the crop – which is totally cool!
I’m not one to get involved in the plus size – straight size debate. My mantra is Live Healthy In Mind, Body and Spirit, and I was fortunate to be bestowed with that knowledge at a youthful age so that I haven’t needed to diet, deprive myself or use Spanx to squeeze into a size 6. I do believe in positive body image and Ashley Graham radiates positivity from every pore of her glowing skin. Selected as the Model of the Year at Full Figured Fashion Week, she gives a few pointers and insights here that can help you put your best stiletto forward – no matter your size. In this special episode of Marie Claire’s Big Girl in a Skinny World, Marcy Guevara interviews Ford Model Ashley Graham on the set of a Lane Bryant photo shoot.
We are so accustomed to computer-generated graphics, it’s hard to believe this is 100% human-generated beauty! Like the song in the video? I did, so I bought it! You can find more music by Yasmine Hamdan here. I wonder if she’s considered Qatar pop? THE CHALLENGE:  Prove ‘The Power of X’ by attempting an Idea Worth Doing to open TEDxSUMMIT in Doha, Qatar. WE ARE Pi collaborated with the Koener Union and Paris’ BIG Productions. Together, they fused architecture, dance, math and magic into a bespoke18-meter high triangular mirrored structure that hovered over a multi-colour moving floor to create the world’s first Human Arabesque (with no computer graphics). Just wow!

Congratulations to Antoneo Gonzalez on his Baptism at The Evangel Triumphant Church of God in Brooklyn, NY this weekend. I am honored to be included in such a meaningful ceremony.

I’ve been to many churches where Mass is attended for a quick hour out of duty, treated almost as an inconvenience that is honored out of guilt.

On the contrary, the Congregation of this small church is inspiring; a community that comes together to make Sunday a spiritual event lasting for 6 hours, praising the Lord for what they have and supporting each other to achieve what they want. It brings an intangible Spirit into the room in a tangible way — and I love the gospel singing!

Wouldn’t you know, such an important video would be the one where the digital video file was flawed. It must’ve been all the spiritual energy messing with the digital electrons

It’s taken me some time to mute out the wind and stabilize the picture, recovering a video that captures this special day. Enjoy! ♥
